Bonney Lake is once again set to host one of the most exciting and educational events of the year—REEFSCAPE, an annual robotics competition presented by Qualcomm. The event is a vibrant celebration of technology, community, and creativity, bringing together 34 teams from schools across the region, including those traveling from as far as Bellevue.

Each year, the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) cycle culminates in this highly anticipated event, drawing hundreds of spectators and participants. The competition, which runs over the weekend, showcases student teams competing for major prizes. Teams set themselves apart through unique themes, creative uniforms, and innovative robot designs, making the event as much about creativity and teamwork as it is about robotics.
This year’s theme, REEFSCAPE, focuses on the critical environmental issue of declining ocean reef populations. By highlighting the importance of ocean cleanup, the event provides a fun yet educational opportunity to raise awareness about our planet’s fragile ecosystems.
REEFSCAPE is open to the public from 8 AM to 8 PM this Saturday and 8 AM to 4 PM on Sunday. Teams from all over will compete in a series of matches, with crowds reaching into the hundreds, gathered to cheer on their favorite teams. The event also features a variety of entertainment and activities for all ages.
Team 3218 (from Bonney Lake High School) encourages attendees to arrive at any time
during the event, but the official opening ceremony kicked off at 11 AM on Saturday and will kick off at
9 AM on Sunday, with matches starting shortly after.
Visitors can also expect a lively atmosphere, with many teams showcasing their creativity through themed costumes and giving away free trinkets. Be sure to bring your best outfit and a bag to collect all the fun freebies!
REEFSCAPE is a wonderful opportunity to support local students, witness the excitement of robotics, and learn more about the importance of protecting our oceans—all while enjoying a weekend full of energy!
